Nursery Garden

Nursery Garden

This busy day nursery in a city centre had an outdoor play area that was bordered by tall buildings and a car park.  It was also laid entirely to concrete which added limitations to any design.

The brief was to create a garden that had a sense of magic and would make children feel close to nature even within this built up area.

Artificial grass was laid over a safety surface to create a green oasis that would negate the expense of removing the concrete.  To mask the boundaries, artifical grass was also used on the walls in a rolling hills motif, which included shaped outdoor blackboards and mirrors to add more interest for the children.

Bendy houses provide play areas and storage with their bespoke ‘green roofs’ helping them blend into the garden. A thatched gazebo with bespoke curved fencing and outdoor beanbags provides a safe area for babies to play as well as offering a quiet storytelling area for pre-schoolers.

Alphabet climbing holds on the wall and stepping logs help develop balance, strength and co-ordination skills whilst a mud pie kitchen and sandpit provide plenty of opportunity for imaginative play.

There is a wood effect raised bed for children to plant and grow their own fruit and vegetables and brightly coloured pots are filled with sensory plants and trees for the children to enjoy and explore.
